On UAE Flag Day, we come together to celebrate the symbol of our nation’s unity, strength, and progress. For me, this day takes me back memory lane to the unique celebration post covid when I had the honor of hoisting the largest UAE flag underwater at Abu Dhabi Creek. As a PADI Master Scuba Instructor and founder of ScubaFun.ae, this act was not just a symbol of patriotism, but also a deep commitment to the values of co-existence and inclusivity that are integral part of UAE’s future.
The UAE Flag: A Symbol of Pride
The UAE flag represents more than just our nation’s identity—it embodies the resilience, unity, and determination that have driven the UAE’s rapid development over the past five decades. Hoisting the flag underwater at Abu Dhabi Creek was a soulful experience for me. It was a symbolic gesture, honoring both the progress of the nation and the importance of protecting our marine heritage alongside inclusivity.
Co-existence: Diving with different abilities
At this event, I had the privilege of merging my professional role as a Special Education Needs Coordinator with my passion for scuba diving. For the first time, I experienced diving alongside individuals of diverse abilities. This profound experience reaffirmed that patriotism, like diving, knows no boundaries—it is an inclusive endeavor. Witnessing the freedom and joy that underwater movement offers to individuals, some of whom rely on wheelchairs on land, highlighted the transformative therapeutic potential of the ocean.
At ScubaFun.ae, we aim to do more than provide diving lessons; we create opportunities for connection and inclusion. By training support divers, we help foster an understanding of the responsibility that comes with sharing the joy of diving with individuals who may have only dreamed of this possibility. The ocean becomes a space of co-existence, where divers of all abilities can thrive—mentally, physically, and emotionally—with the support of a helping hand.
This event ignited a personal drive to promote initiatives such as Adaptive Dive Techniques and Support Diver Programs. By collaborating with dive centers and communities, ScubaFun.ae strives to be at the intersection of sport, education, and inclusivity.

The UAE’s dedication to inclusivity and equal opportunity shines through its leadership in creating initiatives like the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination. This effort extends into the realm of marine conservation, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can contribute to protecting our oceans.
